York:Ten Things To Do

With winter coming we finally decided to take a road trip beyond the wall, to York. However, despite it’s ancient heritage, there are no ‘Wildlings’ to be found here! From it’s rich, historic architecture to it’s glorious tea rooms and lush, green parks. I could literally spend weeks if not months exploring the medieval city of York. Here’s our’ Ten Things To Do’, in York.

York Minster

A huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, with exquisite stained glass windows and two fully functioning bell towers.

Yorkshire Pudding

It’s a Sunday Roast like no other. We dare you to get your chops around a Yorkshire pudding wrap! The York Roast Co. on Low Petergate, take Yorkies bigger than your face and stuff them to the brim with all your Sunday faves!

The City Walls

A skyline walkway running along much of the city. A fun, free way to see the city. However, not very wheel chair or buggy friendly!

The Museums

The Park

The York museum park, is an absolute must, with its beautifully landscaped gardens and old ruins. It’s free, has endless exploration/energy burning potential for kids and perfect for picnics.

Tea

If Cream teas your tipple, you’ll be spoilt for choice. We recommend ‘Earl Grey Tea Rooms’. A traditional tea room serving hot & cold food in the surroundings of a medieval building. With a large, vibrant courtyard for al fresco dining. Very family friendly, with amazing staff who will accommodate your every need and not even batter an eyelid at your tantrumming tot! #truestory

The Market

An open, outdoor market with everything from hand crafted gifts to fashion accessories. The market runs seven days a week.

York Castle

Found on the south side of the River Foss.

The Shambles

Is a medieval shopping street in the city, dating back to 1350.

Pop Ups & Festivals

Make sure to check a head for any up and coming festivals and/or pop ups. Like The Heart of Yorkshire Festival, currently running in and around Deans Park, by York Minister.

If you loved exploring the city walls why not head out to the Yorkshire coast!

Have fun,
