If you’re running low on lockdown learning ideas this water play activity is the perfect way to learn whilst having fun.
Kids love learning and experimenting with water, but the clean/dry up after can be laborious at the best of times. So, why not try this water in a bag trick/experiment. Not only is it a relatively dry, water activity it’s also easily adjusted to multiple age groups. However, always make sure children are supervised.
What You’ll Need For This Water Play Activity
A single zip lock plastic bag.
Sharpened pencils are perfect for this, but you could also use skewers.
The simplicity of this activity is key.
Fill the zip lock bag ¾ full with water. Make sure to let the air out and then zip it tight.
Hold up bag of water and begin to push pencils all the way through the bag of water (do not pull pencils out again until ready).
Continue to put as many pencils as you like through the bag.
Allow older children to try pushing them through in different directions and then admire the structure they create.
If you wish to watch the water falls flow (my kids really enjoyed this bit). Go outside and start pulling the pencils out.
Why not try adding sugar, oil and and different colours of food dye to the water for an extra element of intrigue. This will create the perfect visual for discussing topics such as liquid density and why the different fluids and colours mix or separate.
For more visual learning activities mum of 2 Jade based in the West Country also has lots of resources to share and information on visually led learning.
If you enjoyed this water play activity why not try one of our many other lockdown learning sessions. Remember we’re in this together so, share your tips, ideas and questions in the comments below. All resources welcome no matter your child’s age group, learning style or abilities and needs.
