This weeks guest post is a review of ‘Winnie & Wilbur’ by The Irish Book Mammy. Formerly known as ‘Winnie the Witch’, Winnie and Wilbur is a series of stories for young children. Witten by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul.
Review
There are a number of books available in the series these ones are the large illustration books aimed at the younger children but there is a series aimed for self-readers so aged 5 and upwards. The books I will be discussing are the books for younger children typically A4 sized.
Does anyone remember Winnie the Witch? I grew up on some of her books and my son almost 3 years old has rediscovered them . These book are a feast for the eyes with the detailed illustrations and magical adventures in which Winnie and her cat Wilbur ( a very mischievous little guy) get into all kinds of trouble.
Winnie
A gifted yet clumsy witch with a taste for adventure and this usually results in something going wrong. The books are funny and immersive for little ones. My son especially loves when Winnie casts a spell which tends to go wrong at first and involves lots of special moves like standing on toes, twirling 5 times and of course shouting Abracadabra!!! Winnie likes shortcuts, she likes pleasing herself and sometimes is just too nosey for her own good, although she quickly finds out cutting corners is not the smartest thing to do. Her adventures span time, space and seasons and are so much fun to be a part of.
These books make for amazing bedtime reading with an average of 18 pages with no more than 4 lines of text per page. Most of the pages are dedicated to the illustrations which are fantastic. I love getting my little one to find things on the page which helps with his speech and learning. Overall the books are fun, they have lessons hidden in there and Wilbur is the cutest cat ever.
You can see some of the ones we have in our collection so go out there and add them to yours and discover the world of Winnie & Wilbur. You won’t regret it!

We loved these when Caroline was younger. Our friend would often read them to the girls at sleepovers, using a comic voice for Winnie. Really quirky and engaging storylines too #kidsandkreativity
