Blogger Mamma: Amber Carly

If there’s one thing I love the most about being a Blogger Mamma it’s all the other Blogger Mammas you get introduced to. Like Amber Carly for instance. Another over ‘sharenter‘ and fellow wins and woes writer. Amber is from the Apple Isle of Australia. Mother to the beautiful Felix James, master vlogger and lover of all things beauty! She’s so with it you want to hate her, but she’s just too lovely to even try!

Behind the vlog

So, Amber what best describes you: A mum that vlogs, or a vlogger that’s a mum?
I would say probably a mum who vlogs. I’ve had my channel for a few years now. It previously had a few beauty related videos and hauls. However, I didn’t start the weekly vlog until last year.

What inspired you to start your blog?
When I became a stay at home mum, as I wanted to share my mummy content, advice etc. My biggest inspiration to begin blogging in the first place was my love for creative writing. It’s a passion I’ve had ever since I was a young teen. I would sit for hours after school just writing .

With your Youtube channel being such a success even in it’s infancy, you’ve now begun to put more focus towards your blog. What can followers expect to see/find on the site in coming months?
More posts of all of my passions and loves! Parenting, beauty reviews, just general catch ups on ‘how I’m feeling’. I would like to also start sharing recipes I have tried with Felix that have been a hit. I’m also going to be more consistent and stick to it! Juggling a Youtube channel and blog can be quite tricky with a demanding 1 year old in tow.

What three words describe your parenting style?
Nurturing, protective and fun!

Felix is always such a happy chappy, what’s your top tip to keeping baby content for new mums?
It feels like 100 years ago when Felix was a tiny little baby, so the memories of how we attempted to keep him content back then are quite foggy. He seemed to like music and rocking in his swing. I would also sing to him a lot and I feel like he enjoyed that too. Now at almost 14 months old as you can imagine Felix is a lot busier. Keeping him content is easier, all we do is rotate his many toys every few days!

You’re really into beauty products and the latest fashion trends, what go to pieces would you recommend to a mum on the run?
Beauty wise, I definitely recommend a good BB cream. As mums, we don’t want to be wearing a full face of foundation every day. It’s great as a quick confidence booster. It’ll cancel out most redness and evenly smooth out the skin without feeling too heavy! I highly recommend the Rimmel BB creams as they actually have quite impressive coverage and contain SPF15!

Fashion wise I usually just wear what I find to be most comfortable but still cute! Recently I’ve learnt to invest in a couple pairs of supportive shoes, they don’t have to be ugly so shop around and see what you can find. I suffered with back issues and leg pain the heavier Felix got. I feel like if I had worn more appropriate footwear it may not have been such an issue!

Who are your fashion and beauty idols?

Beauty Idols I highly look up to are Katie Snooks, she is my favourite You-tuber. I also love Jaclyn Hill, Lauren Curtis and Chloe Morello to name but a few. However, when it comes to someone I completely and devotedly look up to, there isn’t anybody really. I take inspiration from different places and make it my own. For example, I absolutely love florals, cute prints and collars. But then I also love lace up boots, leather jackets and spikes. So I guess you could say my style is edgy but cute? The person I would best compare myself to (fashion-wise) is a character from Pretty Little Liars. Her style is exactly what I love.

If you and Felix could do anything/go anywhere for the day, where would it be?

I would take him to Adelaide Zoo. It’s one of my favourite places ever and I know he would absolutely adore it!

What’s your go to ‘pick me up’?

Coffee and lots of it. My boyfriend is a barista and he makes the best coffee I’ve ever tasted, not even biased. I love my trips to his work with Felix. You haven’t tried a Gingerbread latte until Nick makes you one!

If you could go back to the start of your parenting journey and know what you know now, what advice would you give yourself?

To not be so damn hard on myself! Relax, breathe, take each day as it comes. I wish I hadn’t stressed as much as I did. Which is hard to do if you suffer with terrible anxiety. Next time around at least I’ll have the knowledge and experience under my belt. Parenthood is all a learning  journey, don’t beat yourself up! I really didn’t need to put myself through so much anxiety and blame when I was being the best mum I could be!

Felix’s desert island disc tune (tune to be stranded with) versus yours?
Oh goodness. Probably ‘The Number Of The Day‘ sung by The Count from Sesame Street. He also loves dancing to anything by The Wiggles! For me, my desert island tune would be Crash Into Me. By The Dave Matthews Band. It’s my favourite song of all time and super relaxing – perfect for an island!

Interested in finding out more about Amber and Felix? Then why not follow their antics on the ‘gram. Until then let’s play them out with The Dave Matthews Band, because well I think we’re probably all Sesame Streeted out at this point! <<insert face palm>>…
